Engineered wood floors have a bit more work involved as they consist of a multi-ply, cross-laid backing with a veneer top layer of a selected species and design. Therefore, due to its construction, engineered flooring is more dimensionally stable and can be installed in areas where solid wood is not compatible.The cost compared to  solid wood flooring  is cheaper because the wood finish is only on the top layer. For example, if you want an oak finish, then only the top layer is oak and the lower layers will be made of a cheaper wood such as pine.

Hertford

 

Hertford is the county town of Hertfordshire. The name is Anglo Saxon and means the ford frequented by harts or stags. Hertford has the remains of Hertford Castle. Hertford Castle was a Royal Palace for over 300 years. The River Lea runs through Hertford on its way to London. Located on the A10 which provides a link into North London.

 

History

Around the Norman Conquest the River Lea formed a natural boundary between the Danelaw to the north and Saxon Wessex to the south. Bengeo and Hertingfordbury Saxon villages already existed at and in the early 900s Edward The Elder, son of Alfred The Great, founded two fortified settlements, north and south of the Lee crossing from this 2 towns evolved.

After the Norman Conquest, a castle was built in Hertford, also a mill and a priory. For the over 300 years the Castle was a Royal residence. For the kings and queens.

In 1627 the castle passed into the ownership of the Salisbury estate. The only remains of the Castle are the the flint walls and the gatehouse.

The church fell into disrepair when Hertford Priory was dissolved in the 16th century and the land on which the Priory stood became a manor farm.

The River Lea navigation was cut through the town In the late 18th Century providing important access to London's markets. In the  late 19th Century the railway  to London (south) and Cambridge (North) was built in  the town.

Hertford is home for Hertfordshire County Council The brewery of McMullens is the main beer producer of Hertfordshire, is based in the town.
